Our Hospital’s History
In 1975 Dr. David Lane graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and moved to Los Angeles, CA. He practiced small animal and equine medicine at two locations in the San Gabriel valley. In 1978 he and his wife moved back to southern Illinois where he established Lakeside Veterinary Clinic in September 1978. The doors were first opened at the Sweets Corner Business Center one mile east of our current location in Carbondale.
Dr. John Finley became a partner at Lakeside in 1983 and worked full time until health concerns forced his retirement in 2007.
In 1987 a new state-of-the-art 4,000 square-foot hospital was built and the business name changed to Lakeside Veterinary Hospital. The expansion reflected the substantial increase in demand for veterinary care and capabilities for the community.
A second facility was established in early 1983 on the north side of Herrin in a neighborhood known as Chittyville. The clinic was moved to south Herrin in 1991. In 1995 a new building was erected at our present location in Energy, IL. This facility inherited the original practice name: Lakeside Veterinary Clinic.
After 34 years of practice, Dr. Lane sold the practice to Dr. Verbeck in December 2012. Dr. Verbeck is committed to continuing the 34 years of excellence that have been established at Lakeside Veterinary Hospital and Lakeside Veterinary Clinic.
